Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Mastopexy
is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. It
is intended to lift the nipples to a more normal position and remove
the extra stretched skin without reducing the overall size of the
breasts. During the procedure excess skin is removed and the existing
breast tissue is reshaped.
This
procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia.
The surgery can take from two to three hours. It can also be performed
in conjunction with a breast augmentation (enlargement).
After surgery an elastic bandage or surgical bra is worn over gauze
dressings. The breasts may be bruised and swollen for a few days.
Any discomfort should be limited and is easily controlled by medication.
A soft support
bra will be worn for the first three to four weeks. Activities will
be limited during the first week. Any strenuous or repetitive activities
will be limited for up to four weeks. After surgery the breasts
are firmer and have a well contoured shape.
