Spider
Veins
Spider veins are those small yet unsightly
clusters of red, blue, and purple veins that usually appear on the
thighs, calves and ankles. In fact, it's estimated that at least
half of the adult female population is plagued with this common
cosmetic problem. Did you know that a simple office procedure can
treat these bothersome veins? Sclerotherapy is the process that
is used to treat spider veins.
This procedure is quick, lasting 15 to 45 minutes, depending on
how many veins are treated. It's done in the office with very little
discomfort. Using an extremely small needle, the veins are injected
with a solution that causes them to scar shut and fade away. You
may experience some slight swelling, however this goes away very
quickly. The results of sclerotherapy for spider veins can vary
from patient to patient. A few patients will experience a faint
brown coloration from the dissolved blood pigments which will eventually
fade away. The solution takes about 4-6 weeks to fade the spider
veins. Then you're ready for those shorts and swim suits!
