Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty
is a surgical procedure to correct disproportionately large or prominent
ears making them closer to the head. This procedure is performed
on children and adults. During the procedure the surgeon creates
or restores the center fold of the ears, allowing the ears to lay
closer to the head.
This procedure is done under general or local anesthesia and is
performed as an outpatient surgery. The surgery usually takes about
three hours. There may be some soreness or discomfort that is easily
controlled with medication. Most patients can return to work in
a week to ten days. Afterwards the patient is seen with ears that
lie closer to the head with a more natural appearance.
